Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

MYSALAH ("the Extension") is a free Chrome browser extension that delivers accurate Islamic prayer times, desktop notifications, and visual overlays. It requires no account, no sign-up, and no payment.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Extension accesses, how it is used, and how it is stored. By installing and using the Extension you agree to this policy.

2. Data We Access

The Extension accesses only the minimum data needed to function:

• Geographic location — your latitude and longitude, obtained via the browser's Geolocation API (only when you click "Detect my location") or entered manually as a city name. Used exclusively to calculate Islamic prayer times for your area.
• Prayer settings — your chosen visual theme, animation mode, notification preferences, and per-prayer time offsets.
• Daily prayer check-offs — which of the five daily prayers you have marked as completed. Reset automatically at midnight.

None of this data is transmitted to any server we own or operate. It is stored entirely within Chrome's built-in storage APIs on your device.

3. How Your Data Is Used

All data is used for one purpose only: providing you with accurate, timely prayer reminders.

• Your location is used to calculate the five daily prayer times using an on-device algorithm.
• Your settings are used to display the popup, schedule notifications, and play the visual overlay you selected.
• Your prayer check-offs are used to update the progress bar and strike-through completed prayers.

4. Third-Party Services

The Extension uses Nominatim, a geocoding service operated by OpenStreetMap, only when you use the city-name search feature. Specifically:

• When you type a city name, that search query is sent to Nominatim to return coordinates.
• When you click "Detect my location", your coordinates are sent to Nominatim to return a human-readable city name.

This communication is limited to the moment of location setup. Nominatim's privacy policy can be found at osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.

No other third-party services, trackers, analytics tools, or advertisement networks are used.

5. Data Storage

Your settings and location are stored in chrome.storage.sync, which is Chrome's built-in synchronized storage. This means your preferences are available across multiple devices if you are signed in to the same Chrome profile with Google Sync enabled. This sync is handled entirely by Google's infrastructure and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

Your daily prayer check-offs are stored in chrome.storage.local, which is stored only on the current device.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share any of your data with any third party, other than the limited Nominatim geocoding request described in Section 4.

7. Children's Privacy

MYSALAH is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Extension after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
